Energy Management Collaborative (EMC) today announced a multi-year plan to provide LED lighting upgrades, kiosk and interactive exhibit lighting, and volunteer support for The Works Museum in Bloomington, MN.

The Works Museum, a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) based 501(c)(3) educational organization, is an interactive children’s museum with the mission of inspiring the next generation of innovators, engineers and creative problem solvers. The 40,000 square foot facility features an interactive Experience Gallery and The Workshop, a creative space where families can take specialty classes on topics ranging from electronics to woodworking.

EMC will leverage its day-to-day lighting + controls + IoT industry expertise as well as traditional forms of volunteering to further The Works Museum’s STEM education platform.

“The Works and EMC share guiding principles around engineering, fostering cultures of innovation, diversity and critical thinking,” explained EMC CEO Howard Heckes. “Given this alignment, we knew we wanted to help on multiple levels.”

The project begins with the first phase of a LED lighting retrofit the week of November 26. This is expected to reduce the Museum’s energy output by 105,107 kilowatt hours (kWh), the equivalent of eliminating 8,800 gallons of gasoline consumption, and return $10,510 in annual savings to the nonprofit’s bottom line.

An educational kiosk featuring LED lighting technology is also planned for the main gallery and EMC will partner with The Works Museum to create classroom activities related to LED lighting, controls and IoT technologies.

“We are thrilled to benefit from EMC’s expertise, in not only advancing our energy savings and sustainability, but in the impact their engineering expertise and outreach will have on our young visitors,” said The Works Museum CEO Jill Measells.

Energy Management Collaborative (EMC) provides leading-edge LED lighting + controls + IoT conversion systems and service solutions to a broad range of multinational retail, commercial, industrial and government customers.
