3M Championship PGA Tour Champions Returning to the Twin Cities July 31-August 6

June 16, 2017

For the 25th consecutive summer the best senior golfers in the world will gather in the Twin Cities during the first week of August for the 3M Championship, one of the signature events on the PGA Tour Champions schedule. The tournament benefits healthcare programs at Allina Health’s Abbott Northwestern Hospital, United Hospital and Mercy & Unity Hospitals, donating more than $25 million to charity since its inception in 1993.

Defending champion Joe Durant, who defeated Miguel Angel Jimenez in a thrilling one-hole playoff to capture last year’s trophy, is expected to be back to defend his title. Durant won an exciting playoff by making an eagle on the par-5 18th hole to best Jimenez’s birdie.

The 2017 season on the senior tour has been a star-studded affair, with the legendary Bernhard Langer, who finished third in last year’s 3M Championship, leading the way with three victories, including back-to-back wins in the season’s first two majors in May.

Other winners on the senior circuit this year include Jimenez, Fred Couples, first-time senior-tour winner John Daly, and Minnesota’s own Tom Lehman, who won the Tucson Conquistadors Classic by one stroke over PGA Tour Champions newcomer Steve Stricker.

EMC is proud to once again be a sponsor for the 3M Championship, which will be held from July 31-August 6 at the TPC Twin Cities golf course, located in Blaine, MN. The 2017 event will once again be a fantastic week of golf, with a field that could include three-time winner Langer, two-time winner Kenny Perry, Lehman, Daly and first-year senior tour players and Wisconsin natives Stricker and Jerry Kelly.

This great week of golf will kick off with a Pro-Am on Monday, July 31, followed by the fan-favorite Accenture Executive Women's Pro-Am on Tuesday, which will be hosted once again by LPGA legend Nancy Lopez. Tuesday evening at 6:30 will be the EMC Draw Party Presented by Treasure Island Resort & Casino at the KQRS Tent at the TPC Twin Cities. Wednesday and Thursday will be EMC Pro-Am days, where pros will team with local amateurs.

Tournament play begins on Friday, August 4, and continues through Sunday, August 6. All the golf events are free and open to the public. Check back with the EMC website over the next two months for updates on the event. EMC looks forward to watching the golfing greats play from the 18th green Skybox and hopes to see you in Blaine for another fantastic week of golf at the 3M Championship!
